We stayed for our Christmas vacation. The house was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed to be able to cook at home. It was very clean and cozy. We enjoyed feeding the deer off the back patio. It was a great location for everything we were planning to do while we were there, definitely recommend this place to friends and family

This was our second stay at this house. We enjoy seeing the wildlife and feeding the deer and wild horses. The back patio has the most spectacular view and is our favorite hanging out place. The management has always been very responsive to any questions we have.

Great cabin with all the things you'll need. Every kitchen tool you could think of, including the little things like baggies, foil, dish soap, coffee filters. You won't need to bring or buy any of that which is so helpful! Cabin is cozy, fireplace nice to have in the cold. Saw lots of wild life. Went to the winter park for tubing, just minutes away. Check in was a small problem but could have been due to power issues. Highly recommend!

We loved Nell's Getaway. It was spotlessly clean, well appointed, and the views from the deck were amazing. We saw lots of deer and even elk. Some of the wild horses came by so we got a great mix of nature. It was very homey. My only wish was the mattress in the guest room was a little firm but that is more of a personal preference than a complaint. :-) I would definitely stay here again.

If you are looking for a quiet property with beautiful views of the Ruidoso area, this is a great choice. Enjoy your morning coffee on a large deck as you feed the deer who stop by for a visit. (They love carrots!) The inside of the property is nicely decorated and may be the best stocked of any property we have ever rented. They literally had stocked everything you might need. Beds were very comfortable. If rain keeps you inside during your visit, be sure and try the scavenger hunts in the property notebook. The notebook also has helpful restaurant suggestions for the area, but be advised that staffing shortages mean many area restaurants are keeping irregular hours, so call ahead. You will really enjoy this quiet retreat.

We had a great family getaway at Nell's. The place was refreshing, cool, clean, and quiet. It was just what we needed to finish up our summer and get ready for the hustle and bustle of the school year to start. Nell's Getaway exceeded our expectations in every way. We were so comfortable here and we enjoyed the back deck very much. Most of our time was spent out there watching the deer come up to the porch. We will definitely be back time and again!

We enjoyed spending quality at the cabin. We cooked breakfast and dinner ever day and enjoyed a warm fire. We had deer come by every day to visit us. A big buck came on our last morning before check out was the icing in the cake.

Nell's Getaway was an excellent choice for us. It was a nice, quiet location; furnishings and appliances were top notch. Neiman Marcus bath towels were a great plus. Deer greeted us on check-in at 4pm and came to say good-bye at 7am in the morning on leaving day.

My wife, Shelly and I just love the Alto/Ruidoso area, in fact, we are considering buying a place or building there. We stayed at “Nell’s Getaway” in Alto over the Valentine holiday. The location was very important for our trip, because we would like to retire at Rainmakers Golf Community which is very close to “Nell’s Getaway”. In the beginning of our stay, we noticed how meticulous, clean, and accommodating the place appeared to be, which is usually a very good indication of what the homeowner’s personal characteristics are truly like. As we enjoyed our time while staying at “Nell’s Getaway”, we noticed how fun it was to come home Nell’s, cook a great meal and relax in front of the outstandingly warm and very cozy fireplace! We are native Oklahoman’s and I am a member of the Cherokee tribe, so we love the rustic, western look, just perfect for our taste! Everything worked just fine except our coffee maker and after a long, unsuccessful, operational attempt, a short telephone conversation to Hummingbird, it was replaced with a brand new one that day. That was the only issue we had during our short, 4 day visit! “Nell’s Getaway” is located in a small, very well kept, and spacious neighborhood, with very nice neighbors, we had to search for our firewood and it was very cold and windy during our entire stay, we got tired of going up and down the steep slope in back of the place, so we got into my truck and went down the street to search on some flat land, but as we were scavenging small pieces of potential firewood, the neighbor next door to us, who had a huge, cut wood pile, offered to give us what we needed, that was very kind and thoughtful! We really had a great time staying at Nell’s Getaway and would certainly stay there again, but remember to book early, this place is very popular, and for good reason!! Ed & Shelly Glass, Edmond, OK

Because we like to cook, we have tried to equip the kitchen with everything you will need. You should find paper goods, staples like coffee and baking necessities, good utensils and cookware, and a good selection of spices. The outdoor grill is exactly like the one we have at home because of the high standards of the Head Chef of the Family?

The deck is one of our favorite features. There is a covered area which is a nice place to enjoy the afternoon rains. The uncovered area provides a beautiful panoramic view and a nice place to have coffee or wine while you watch the wildlife and count the stars. Deer are frequent visitors, as well as hummingbirds. There have been occasional visits from fox, elk and wild horses. Near the deck is a free-standing hammock which is a perfect place to read a good book or take a nap.

Visitors have commented about the peace and quiet. Nell’s Getaway is on a tucked away street with very little traffic and is located in Enchanted Forest to give a true mountain feeling. Ski Run Road is 5 minutes away.

The house is stocked with board games and several pages of hints to make your stay memorable. We have created some scavenger hunts, with a prize of chocolate to be discovered.

This cabin was perfect for the three of us (an older couple and our young-adult son). Every detail in this cabin has been thought of and generously furnished! We lacked nothing, and truly enjoyed our time there. We saw many deer, a bull elk, and many humming birds around the cabin. The cabin was easy to find, and in a quiet neighborhood. We had everything we needed, and more-so. What a fine place! We highly recommend Hummingbird Cabin!

FANTASTIC!!!! Nothing but an awesome experience, from my initial web search, to my first phone contact with Hummingbird Cabins to the arrival, and throughout the stay. The only complaint that I have was having to leave. The staff was remarkable in their customer service, and happily answered all of my questions. Booking Nells Getaway was a breeze. The cabin was more spectacular than I would have ever imagined. The owner has gone above and beyond with attention to every detail and accommodation of the cabin. I cant say enough about the staff at Hummingbird Cabins, they were so helpful and friendly, and I could really tell they enjoyed what they do, and have a passion for ensuring that the guests have an amazing experience from beginning to end. The prices and packages offered were great!! There is no way to say anything negative at all. We will definitely be back, and during the meantime I will be recommending Hummingbird to all of my friends, and even strangers.

We truly enjoyed our time getting away at Nell's Getaway. The location is good, and the view across the valley from the deck is picturesque. We enjoyed the critters too - the deer, woodpeckers and token squirrel. Night and day time temperatures were ideal for sitting on the deck, enjoying the views or just sitting out there in the evening by candlelight with some munchies and a glass of wine. The outdoor grill was as good (or better)than the one we have at home, and we used it several times. The home itself was comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed. Parking was a plus, with lots of room and a level site.

This little house is comfortably furnished and filled with beautiful art. The kitchen has every possible appliance, spices and utensils if you like to cook. There is a large Weber grill on the back deck. The deck is partially covered and is a great place to have coffee or wine. The view is so pretty. If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to be. There are good TVs and WiFi. A big plus is the air conditioning when the afternoons are warm. The owners have created scavenger hunts and leave chocolates to be discovered. There are board games and even some books and magazines. Deer, wild horses, elk, hummingbirds and even a fox are frequent visitors. The front porch is large and has two Adirondack chairs where you can sit and watch the rain or snow. It is about 5 minutes from Ski Run Road.

We are a little late writing our review, but last summer my wife and I booked a cabin for a weekend getaway. Upon arriving, the cabin we booked did not have air conditioning. We called the management office, and they immediately moved us to a different cabin, with air conditioning. Our stay at Nell’s Getaway cabin exceeded our expectations. We have been looking for a nicely appointed, clean cabin so we can plan our escapes from the busy life. We celebrated our 35th Wedding Anniversary at the cabin and enjoyed the peacefulness of the back porch, local deer that visited us each morning, and how comfortable everything was overall. We will be using this cabin again in the future and have already recommended it to our friends.

We recently returned for a stay at Nell’s Getaway. We enjoyed this cabin again with a few minor exceptions. We asked for an early arrival time and could not gain access to the property. The request had not been coded into the security system. Our call to Hummingbird Cabins resulted in a quick solution and we were allowed entry. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin on our first visit. However, this time we found dirty dishes that had been put back on shelves, dirty silverware in drawers, refrigerator shelves were dirty as were appliances/coffee maker and dining table had not been wiped down. The rest of the cabin was spotless and comfortable. I’m hoping this was an oversight, as we would love to return to Nell’s Getaway.

We stayed at Nell’s hideaway for several nights in September. The cabin was a perfect two bedroom/2 bathroom. It was so easy to find and we could park close to the front door so loading and unloading the vehicle was easy. The kitchen was well stocked with gadgets and appliances so we had no problem cooking. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were nice. I would definitely recommend this cabin to others.

Joe and I enjoyed our stay from 7-8-15 t0 7-22-15. Cabin was all it was said to be, we stayed at Nell’s Getaway and it was great. The only thing that was wrong was the electric stove was old and i had to get help to bake in the oven. The cabin needs a new stove. The patio is wonderful, and the cabin was very comfortable, It was fully stocked with pots and pans and all the extras.

Thank you for your comments! The electric stove was replaced 4 years ago. I will leave instructions to help in its operation. The oven floor looks bad because someone put foil on it and that left marks. We try to keep everything up to date and hope you will return!

Hi loved the Nells Getaway Cabin! Overall, I can say that the cabin was pricey but it was worth it. The only downside is that you have to take out the trash, if you don’t they will charge you extra. My question is, so what is the point of charging a cleaning fee if you have to take out the trash ? That is the only thing I can complain about. The cabin was super furnished with everything we needed including the kitchen! It was super clean and comfy! The soap of the bathrooms were from bath and body works (I love that store lol). It shows that the owners taught of every detail. I liked that the cabin had a code to enter and not a key, very up to date on technology and safety. I really enjoyed my stay! I will definitely book hummingbird cabins for next year:)

We loved everything about our visit! We stayed at Nells Getaway, and could not have imagined better accommodations. This cabin was spectacular, with complete attention paid to every detail by the cabin owner and Hummingbird Cabins. We had great views of the mountains peeking through the trees, and lots of wildlife visitors daily. If I ever get a chance to visit again, this will be the place I want to stay at.

I have stayed at various properties thru Hummingbird Cabins and on this occasion we took a girl’s trip and stayed at Nell’s Getaway. This is the most well stocked little cabin I have ever stayed in. Games, kitchen pots, pans, appliances, gadgets, flashlights, all coffee necessities, etc., etc. The cabin is cozy and appropriately decorated with comfortable furniture to accommodate any type of guest. Neighborhood is very quiet. The front porch and back deck are really great and the wildlife are definitely integrated into this particular property which makes it even more enjoyable. It was VERY clean and well maintained- if there were any suggestions to make on this particular property it would be that I sometimes travel with aging parents and handicap accessible toilets (which is essentially a taller/elongated toilet) are a must for them- this would be the ONLY thing to deter me from renting the property in the future if traveling with them. Aside from that- the cabin is PERFECT and I would highly recommend it as it is in my top two favorites….(Cabin on the Mountain ranks at the top)

We were very impressed with the responsiveness of the staff at Hummingbird Cabins. We stayed in Nell’s Getaway from 9/23 to 9/30/2023 and had a very wonderful and relaxing week. The experience and close encounter with the wildlife was super. The cabin is kept very clean and well stocked. We have nothing but good to say about this place. The weather was great compared to our HOT weather in Rockwall. We will most certainly recommend Hummingbird Cabins and Nell’s Getaway.

We’ve done condos in Hawaii and even a villa in St. Martin, but this was a first for us – renting a cabin in the U.S. It was great! We understood why the Nell’s enjoy their getaway. We had a problem with the entertainment system (couldn’t get the DVD player to play) but the view from the deck was entertaining in and of itself. The local squirrel kept us amused all day. Someone had broken the footrest for one of the recliners, and the sliding glass door sometimes slipped off the track, but these were minor issues that didn’t detract from the peace and quiet of this location. And we enjoyed meeting Barbara face-to-face rather than just over the phone. We will definitely be back! Thanks so much for a great week. Our stay was great and would book through hummingbird cabins again. The cabin was beautiful. The only 2 items I can complain about is that I never did figure out how to work the TV in the living room and no propane in the gas grill. Our rib eyes weren’t as tasty because we had to cook them inside.
