This was our first visit to Ruidoso. The weather was a roller coaster but we were very pleased and comfortable with the property. The kitchen was well prepared and the beds were comfortable. The hot tub was great too.

Quaint Accommodations and Wildlife!

Our Fall vacation in Ruidoso was just perfect! The Cabin on the Mountain was even better than we expected. The location literally was on top of a mountain so the views were incredible. We enjoyed the deer coming to visit the back deck each morning and evening. We hiked the Grindstone Lake trail and the Ruidoso River Trail. We saw so many elk in and around town as well as mule deer and wild turkeys. The cabin was immaculate, comfortable furnishings and nicely decorated and had a well stocked kitchen. We loved the large hot tub and star gazing from the back deck. Plenty of great shopping and restaurants in town as well. The Land of Enchantment never disappoints!

The cabin was just right, with everything you need to have a great time! It's so peaceful with beautiful views and it's lovely to sit outside in the morning and have breakfast. The only issue I would say is that it could do with a simple vacuum to help clean up pet hair, but it's no big deal. Awesome place to stay!

Really Special Cabin
Husband and I and our pups thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Lovely well decorated and well set up accommodations plus good views. Kitchen decently stocked with dishes and pans and bed linens and towels were good quality. And our king in the master was very comfortable, which is not always the case. The drive to reach it should NOT be attempted in the dark the first time, it is Not for the faint of heart but also not uncommon for the area. Saw magnificent elk, and deer and turkeys in the mornings while sipping coffee. The hot tub was one of the best situated and fully operational we have encountered in these types of rentals. Yes we really felt comfortable and relaxed except for certain times when nearby neighbors ( don’t know if they were owners or renters like us) were on their balcony talking loudly on speaker phone and peering down at us. That was inconvenient and interrupted our peaceful bliss at times. Fortunately occurred at the end of our stay. irritating and since the houses are not particularly close, only situated with a second story house rising above on the hill. With no cover on the deck, the nights are really nice for star gazing and enjoying the cool.

This cabin has incredible views of both the sunset and the sunrise. Sitting under the stars in the hot tub was an amazing experience. The road up to the cabin is somewhat steep but our 2-wheel drive made it and it's paved the whole way. If it had been wet or icy, we would not have made it.

Enjoyed our stay! Great views of Sierra Blanca from front deck! Check out Grindstone hiking trailhead around corner. Quiet but close to Ruidosa attractions. Mule Deer showed up every evening. Saw Elk one evening on way back. Saw Turkeys several evenings.

This cabin was better than advertised. We arrived to updated kitchen appliances (compared to the AirBB photos) and updates to many of the rooms not reflected in the photos. My son was THRILLED with the Sheriff/Billy the Kid room. Amazing views, and great space for soaking in the hot tub. We also appreciated the games, which came in handy during a spring snow storm.

Great views, needed a little bit of deep-cleaning (ex., ceiling fans, ants in corner of master bedroom, washer had terrible odor, we decided not to use it). Would be great if owners could put a patio cover on back deck, it was too sunny and warm to enjoy in the afternoons and early evening.

There was some damaged items in the cabin that we noted upon arrival], as long as we were not blamed for the damage it was didn't interfere with our comfort. The propane tank for the BBQ pit was empty so we weren't able to use it. Otherwise it was a great location and beautiful view. Peaceful and lots of deer and turkey. Would come back to this location.

This was not our first time to stay with Humminbird Cabins (Hummingbird Cabin and Cabin on the Mountain were GREAT) but our first at Kidd Kottage. Kidd Kottage is older but that is not a problem. The space was great for 4ppl, and the location is super. It was dusty and dead gnats on flat surfaces had to be addressed before we could fix supper. entertainment/tv/dvd is in drastic need of modernization. Bath linens are very old and need replacing. Bring your own cookware. We will definitely stay at H Cabins again, bt may not at Kidd Kottage.

This home is absolutely gorgeous - decorated beautifully. It is quite spacious and welcoming. All of the appliances are up-to-date. We wanted for nothing. The Jacuzzi was warm and relaxing, and my granddaughters loved it. The view from every window was stunning, and the quiet and peaceful setting was just what we were looking for. The wild turkeys and deer were very entertaining and added to our overall enjoyment of this home. We will be returning soon!

Great all equipped cabin perfect for family gatherings. Location up in the mountain makes it really private and quiet but still 5 minutes away from town. Pictures from site very accurate. Our family had a great time and will likely come back. Thanks for everything, at the end we realized that maybe our dog was to blame for closing the deadbolt from the inside. My husband, mother in law ,Maxwell the schnauzer and I all wanted to get away from the miserable oppressive Texas heat. We enjoyed staying at Cabin on the Mountain. The directions to the cabin were very detailed and we made it to the cabin without getting lost. This cabin is truely up the mountain and was quiet , on a dead end road so there was very little traffic. We enjoyed visits from deer, wild turkey, chipmunks and a huge elk right outside our cabin door. The owners left deer corn, bird seed for our visitors. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch and watching many hummingbirds around the feeders. We enjoyed watching the afternoon thunderstorms come across the mountain top. It didnt take long to get down the mountain to go into town to go out to eat or shop. Hummingbird cabins staff was friendly and answered my questions . The only couple of negative I would say is we stayed for a week and there was not enough paper products left for us, we had to make a trip to Wally world for food so it wasn't a big issue. The other negative would be is that the housekeeping staff needs to dust under the furniture, (there was some very heavy dust under some furniture), and they need to check under the beds . We found a orphaned sock from a previous cabin renter, but these issues have come up at any other hotel stays, no real big problem.(broom and dusting cloth there, so that was taken care of) The cabin is well stocked with everything you need, except blender didnt work and there was a note from previous cabin renter that blender didn't work. Oh well didn't need the margarita anyway. A few furniture pieces needed repair. This was our first experience at ever renting a cabin and we were happy to find this pet friendly one,. It has a large great-room which really feels bigger than what the pictures show. We enjoyed the weather and walks with Maxwell. . Thanks to the cabin owners for sharing this cabin with others. We will be back next year.

We stayed at cabin on the mountain. Such a beautiful cabin and breathe taking views. But the cabin lacks better cleaning. Dead bugs inside on window bases and spider webs on most windows and several areas in the cabin. All the window screens had webs. I understand we are in the mountains, but large webs are from lack of a good cleaning. But thank you for the views, really beautiful.

My family and I stayed at the Cabin on the Mountain last weekend and we had a wonderful time! The cabin was perfect for the 8 of us (4 adults, 3 kids, and a dog)! It was very clean and had everything we needed for the weekend stay. The scenery was breathtaking and peaceful. We enjoyed the board games supplied as well as the hot tub. We had a busy weekend with softball tournaments and birthday celebrations so it was a nice escape at the end of our busy days. We definitely look forward to renting again in the future!

I booked with Hummingbird Cabins online. Contact was easy, and all correspondence was via email. The instructions to the cabin, and the information provided (security code for the door, and the hot tub) were spot on. The drive up to the cabin could be hairy, if there is snow or ice on the roads. A 4WD vehicle is recommended, but you could also just use snow chains on your car. The cabin itself is fairly new, and looks just like the pictures. It is nice and bright inside, while still providing a "cosy" feel. It contained all the necessities, and we did not want for anything. The mattresses felt like low- mid range memory foam, and were firm. (as were the pillows, but that is preference thing) All of the rooms had flat panel TV's, and basic (non-HD) cable. The cabin was also supplied with 2 pairs of binoculars, board games, puzzles, cards, and poker chips. The Wifi is free, unsecured, and of decent speed. The hot tub is amazing, and was used multiple times daily by myself and others. (FYI, the rear side, parallel to the fence, has a spot to lie down. It massages your upper and lower back, glutes, and best of all your calves! HEAVEN!!!) By far the BEST aspect of the cabin is the herds of deer that call Cabin on the Mountain home. They have no fear of humans, and will eat directly from your hand if you feel compelled to do so. ( I WOULD NOT recommend this during the Rutt.) I purchased some deer corn from Ace, and spread some on the driveway, behind the deck, and the yard as a whole. The third morning I awoke to 13 deer having breakfast. They stayed throughout the day, and filled their bellies at night. My girlfriend described the cabin and trip as a whole, as "Magical" given the abundant wild life, and views from the cabin. I would stay at Cabin on the Mountain again, or ANY Hummingbird cabin, as they are a very professional, well run operation. Is there a button for "I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this cabin" ????

As soon as we arrived we felt like we were home! We stayed at Cabin on the Mountain and the pictures didn’t do the place justice. It had breath-taking views and a full porch on the front of the house and the back. The living/kitchen area was an open are perfect for conversing with family and friends. The kitchen was fully stocked with anything you needed to eat, cook, or drink with. The back porch had a grill which was perfect for our steak night. Also on the back porch was a hot tub which was very big and comfortable and most of all very clean! The spacious master bedroom had a full bathroom attached. In addition there was 2 large bedrooms and a full bathroom. The cabin also had a washer and dryer and a dishwasher making cleaning up very handy. We had deer visit us every morning and they got very close- perfect for photo ops. After leaving, we felt very relaxed and it was hard to say goodbye. The instructions that were emailed prior to your arrival were very easy to follow. The staff gave us a courtesy call prior to our arrival to welcome us and to instruct us to print directions because the upcoming week may be busy and you may not get a signal. Wi-Fi is available in the cabin. I would recommend Hummingbird Cabins to anyone that wants a nice, peaceful, fun getaway.

The cabin was awesome! Beautiful views, animals and birds were abundant. Location was perfect. Minutes from town and very close to Ski Apache. Checkin was easy. It was clean and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed. Washer and dryer were a great item. Bedrooms were very comfortable. The service was exceptional! The staff of Hummingbird cabins was very responsive to every question or request we had. We arrived early and were able to check in with no hassles whatsoever. The fireplace and hot tub made for excellent relaxation after a day of skiing. Would definitely rent from the staff of Hummingbird cabins again!

We stood in the cabin, Cabin on the Mountains, it had great views throughout the entire cabin. Very clean and beautiful. The great bonus was the paved driveway with a carport. This cabin has everything you need. We had deer and wild turkey visit, and one raccoon. We will continue to explore other cabins as we have in the past using Hummingbird Cabins, they never have disappointed us! Thank you to all your wonderful staff.

The cabin was very clean and all amenities were extremely nice. We loved seeing the deer and turkeys, the hummingbirds, woodpeckers and spruce jays. Being in the hot tub at night looking up at the stars was incredible. The front porch has an amazing view of the mountains - it was nice to drink coffee and just watch the hummingbirds in the mornings. The kitchen had pots and pans for anything you might want to prepare and a lot of other staple items as well, like cooking oil, salt and pepper, etc.

The location and cabin are AWESOME. The beauty, sounds and creatures are beyond words. Everything you could wish for and more. I would recommend to anyone, just a word of caution for visitors with pets. If your pet would not be comfortable relieving itself on pine needles at a 45 degree angle, then this is not the place for you. After 3 days we were at an Emergency Vet visit @ Franklin Vet Clinic. AMAZING Vet!!!! A few other small cons: TV/Cable did not work entire time (they said everyone's cable didn't work) & the HE washing machine was full of mold so the towels smelled horrible! I notified Hummingbird so hopefully they have addressed the issue. Some items in kitchen drawers had been half eaten by mice. (birthday candles, elmers glue, etc) Besides the Pet stress, it was overall a good visit.

The house was perfect and the location was still close enough to town to get some gambling in. We really enjoyed feeding the deer and seeing turkeys walk by. The house was equipped with all the necessities and the w/d was a big plus for us. We had a nice view and enjoyed the Jacuzzi. I personally loved keeping the fireplace going, just make sure you bring your own wood or prepare to pay. We definitely would stay here again.

From the moment we arrived, we found the cabin on the mountain to be a wonderful place to spend a few days in Ruidoso! The home is beautifully decorated with a Rustic Bear/Indian atmosphere. The kitchen is beautiful with all the dishes and cooking items needed for preparing great meals while visiting. The beds were so comfortable that our backs did not ache while we were there! We saw deer, turkeys, hummers, and other wildlife just outside the cabin. We will continue to stay with Hummingbird Cabins each time we travel to Ruidoso for a relaxing getaway.

We are Texas city slickers that wanted to escape the oppresive Texas heat. We stayed at Cabin on the Mountain from 8-12-13 to 8-19-13 , we had a great time and the week went by in a flash. We enjoyed the quiet area and enjoyed having visitors of a huge elk, deer , wild turkeys, many birds, chipmunks. The deer corn and bird seed were appreciated by our visitors. We brought our schnauzer and appreciated that this cabin was pet friendly. The beds were comfortable and the king size bed was great in the master bedroom. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed, except that we ran out of paper products after a few days , but a trip to WallyWorld took care of that.(no big deal). We enjoyed the view and the afternoon rain showers were amazing to see coming across the top of the mountain from the front porch. This was our first experience of renting a cabin and it wont be our last, we enjoyed having our space and not being bothered by housekeeping wanting to clean the rooms daily. This cabin is up the mountain which we really loved, and the privacy without the traffic. The decor is really nice especially the indian motif decor in the great room.The great room has vaulted ceiling and it made the room feel huge we spent most of our time in this room and really enjoyed its open feel. This cabin had air conditioning and almost new washer and dryer which we utilized a few times. The staff of Hummingbird Cabins were very friendly and helpful, the directions to the cabin were very detailed and we arrived without getting lost. The only few negative things were that the housekeeping needs to be more detailed , we found heavy dust under furniture, and found someone elses dirty sock under the bed otherwise, we felt the cabin was clean and comfy. We are looking forward to returning next August to again enjoy the wonderful Ruidoso weather and would love to stay in the same cabin again. We had a great time last weekend staying at Cabin on the Mountain. furnishings were great. Will come back next month.
