Thoroughly enjoyed staying in my Grandfather Medler's cabin.
By Peter, Posted: 08/23/2023
We loved our stay here. It's a great location surrounded by wildlife and large trees. It's less secluded than the description would lead you to believe as there are several other cabins nearby, but all were empty during our stay.
By Gabriel, Posted: 08/15/2023
The Rainbow Oaks properties made our stay memorable! Creek behind the property had the kiddos busy all afternoon. Old charming cabins that took you back in time (in a good way!) of course it wouldn't be Ruidoso without local wildlife stopping by to visit. Very peaceful and somewhat remote. A perfect getaway property.

We did feel very secluded as cabins on either side were unoccupied. Enjoyed the screened in porch and the deer eating apples outside the dining room windows. Cabin furnishings and kitchen utensils could use some updating.

This cabin was perfect for our family vacation this year.
By Paul, Posted: 07/21/2023
This is a great property. It borders the Apache reservation. Remote and rustic but still only 5-10 minute drive to Midtown. Perfect if you want to walk with your dog. Screened Porch was great. Internet was good. If you don't have to be in walking distance of midtown then this is a no brainer.

The cabin is rustic but so beautifully maintained and decorated. The property is lovely but a little difficult to find. It was just what we were looking for in a quick get away from the Texas heat. We especially enjoyed the patio and screened in porch.

I truly recommend this lovely cabin, it was perfect in every way, thank you!
By Arturo, Posted: 03/17/2023
We booked the cabin for a weekend getaway for a family of three. There was plenty of room to invite friends with the included small separated cabin. We enjoyed the scenery and history of the cabin. Would definitely do it again.

Enjoyed the scenery and rustic cabin, all of the appliances and amenities worked great as well
By Isaac, Posted: 03/06/2023
Both cabins were great! Heater worked prefect and outside setting was great.
By Hope, Posted: 12/12/2022
The cabin and guest were a lovely place to stay and clearly a well loved and enjoyed destination.
By Naira, Posted: 11/27/2022
Great place to stay!! We enjoyed every minute of it and the location as amazing. Since it was snowing it was a little hard to drive up there but with 4x4 vehicles it made it a lot easier. Also with the small house being included it’s a lot better if you have a big family going. We came with our dog and she loved how big the yard was!! 10/10 would recommend

This cabin was just what my wife and I were looking for. Comfortable and secluded, but close enough to town for the occasional trip in. We loved the wild life passing thru the property in the mornings and evenings.
By Jeff, Posted: 11/07/2022
The cabin was wonderful. Secluded, but also close to Ruidoso for an evening out, or a quick trip to the store for necessities.
By Lillie, Posted: 10/31/2022
Very much an older home/cabin. Rustic but comfortable. No cell service but there was a phone and internet. Loved and enjoyed the stream running in the back.
By Jerry, Posted: 08/29/2022
Very clean, beds need to be updated, screened porch and grounds were perfect.
By Chase, Posted: 08/28/2022
This place is perfect. The wildlife is abundant. Saw lots of deer, and a bull elk came through quite a bit. Right up against the reservation. Only thing you hear is the river flowing about 25 yards from the house. Loved our stay here.
By Misty, Posted: 08/19/2022
We enjoyed the seclusion of this property. It made our escape from work life much more enjoyable.
By Jami, Posted: 08/01/2022
This is a historic cabin right off the river. It has a wonderful screened in porch with seating for all. Our first priority was to fill the hummingbird feeder! Deer were abundant and it was truly peaceful. The cabin had great water pressure which can be hard to find being a native from Ruidoso. It's was cozy and comfortable and we will be back soon.
By Parthenia, Posted: 07/31/2022
We enjoyed our stay. Everything was as expected. The kids loved the walk to the water and the wildlife was a plus. They loved it! We look forward to our next visit.
By Jack, Posted: 07/21/2022
I loved the cabin, the setting, and the privacy
By Michael, Posted: 05/29/2022
The cabin is in a beautiful, secluded location right on the edge of Ruidoso, so close to downtown. A little dusty, but that is no surprise considering the present drought. Spent a lot of time on the back porch from which I saw deer, wild (I think) horses and one black bear. Highly recommend
By Carla, Posted: 05/27/2022
Great stone cabins in a quiet neighborhood with the sounds of a forest. It was nice seeing the deer, wild turkey, horses, birds, etc. The cabin and guest cabin were as described in the ad and had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.. they even have table cloths for the picnic table.. we loved staying there. They were cute and quaint which made us very comfortable. The family photo's were nice, painting the properties past. We would definitely stay there again.

My family and I were very comfortable at this sweet historic cabin! My in-laws stayed in the Little House and my family of 4 were in the main cabin. The property was so quiet and had everything we could want. Thank you for a great vacation!
By Wendy, Posted: 03/29/2022
Our family enjoyed the Rainbow Oaks cabin. It is set back from the main road so you are secluded and peaceful, but a short drive to all the amenities. We could hear the river outside the cabin. The little cabin was perfect for our adult son to have his own space but still spend family time. The few things to be aware of, there is only one television. This shouldn't matter to most since you are there to relax and enjoy nature. My elderly mother likes to watch tv in bed so it was an issue for her. The bathrooms are not ideal for elderly since the master has steps and the guest bath is on the other side of the house. These issues did not take away from our enjoyment and appreciation. If you are looking for a peaceful, beautiful setting in the woods, Rainbow Oaks is perfect. We would love to spend a Christmas holiday there!
By Amy, Posted: 01/17/2022
This cottage is everything and more you could ever want from a cabin in the woods. Honestly, it felt like a movie set. Just so perfect.
By Wes, Posted: 01/12/2022
Our family needed a place for 6- my parents, two kids 15/7 and my husband and me. We also needed a house with a chimney Santa could come down. We had a great Christmas stay and all five days we were comfortable between the little cabin and ours allowing for my parents to have their own space. The cabin was warm, clean, kitchen was appointed with what we needed to cook big meals each day. We loved the grill and back porch. Best of all Santa found us!

If you’re looking for a large property with nice scenery to spread out this is it. Extremely secluded in the upper canyon with wonderful and rich history all over while being minutes from town. Having the big cabin and small cabin is a great bonus and value. The updates are fresh and modern but I assure you none of the old school charm and feel disappeared as a result. There is a wood burning fireplace in the main cabin living room but a nice surprise to also have a gas burning fireplace/stove in each cabin for those that prefer convenience over working a wood burning fire. Everything you could need in the kitchen to make your meals and a lot of neat games to use as well. We really enjoyed our time and can’t wait to come back. Thanks for having us!

This was an awesome stay. Great location and scenic spot. Relaxing, quiet, and enjoyed the wildlife. The family loved it and already asking to come back to same location.

This cabin is set back away from the main flow of traffic. It is quiet and beautiful with with burbling of the river as background sounds. Wildlife every morning. So wonderful

We loved our 10 days..saw elk ,bear ,wild turkeys and deer. Loved it’s isolation yet close proximity to town.Adelightful historic cabin filled with personal memories and photos. Now we have our own

Rustic location, peaceful and secluded. Perfect location to unplug and reset! We will be making this a return trip.
By Anthony, Posted: 07/07/2021
The cabin was nice with the three bedrooms and two baths. The family members who stayed there had privacy and plenty of room. The covered and enclosed patio was great for grilling and eating and playing games in the fresh air. Having the river right out the back door was a plus. The Little House was perfect for my wife and I. It is just the right size for a couple. Overall, a great experience.

Loved this piece of property. Off the beaten path, secluded cabin with plenty of space for kids to explore. Loved sitting on back porch in the am listening to river while drinking my coffee. Loved the old touches and history of this place. Would stay here again!

We arrived at the cabin after dark and even with the road conditions, the directions were easy to follow. The cabins were cozy and nicely appointed. We had everything we needed including gorgeous scenery and a quiet, secluded location. I've already recommended this listing to others.

“THE BEST, clean and equipped.”
By Carrie, Posted: 10/29/2020
This cabin Had excellent heating and the best shower !! The guest bedroom desperately needs a new mattress. Loved the screened in porch. Deer, birds and the river!!
By John, Posted: 09/19/2020
We had a very relaxing and quiet stay. Loved the older ambience of the cabin.
By Natalia, Posted: 09/13/2020
The views and outdoor property is gorgeous. We had no issues with any of the neighbors. Hummingbird was good at communicating. The living room furniture was uncomfortable. The kitchen had all of the basics covered which was great.
By Antoinette, Posted: 09/05/2020
Great place for R&R
By Nick, Posted: 08/25/2020
If you want a cabin in the mountains to yourself, this is a great place. It has all the basics you would need. Its a real cabin that has been in use for many decades, so the only negative is if you have allergies to dust mites.
VRBO review.
*Note from HBC: Rainbow Oaks sits in the oldest part of Upper Canyon here in Ruidoso. It's an original cabin to the area and will have some dust because of location.
By David, Posted: 08/20/2020
What a lovely family property. Secluded despite not being so, within earshot of the Ruidoso River (which only by western standards would be called a river... back east it would be a small stream at best) with it's babbling watercourse that succeeds entirely in washing the tensions of daily life away. The cabin is a suitably updated traditional backwoods stone cabin with a small but well equipped kitchen. We want to return with family so we can take the little cabin... a gem in and of itself. I can imagine only those seeking absolute isolation would not find this place delightful.

Great and peaceful
By Carlton, Posted: 03/15/2020
Had a wonderful experience. One issue I would like to bring up. Once you've checked in (typing code in padlock) the door opens just fine but when you leave in and out to walk around property or shop in town. You are able to UNLOCK door without typing code in , by only pressing the schlage button . Thankfully we had no problems but I feel like this should be made aware a.s.a.p before the next occupants. Other than that. Our stay was EXACTLY What our family needed.

What amazing weeking at Rainbow Oak cabin. You can just feel all the love ,all the memories and all the history in and around the cabin.Loved the family photos and reading about the Scotch Lion. The woods around the cabin were teeming with wildlife activity the deer stopped by every morning to feast on the apples from the tree, the chipmunks and squirrels were busy and the birds as well. A black bear even sauntered along the river one evening! Highlight of the week for sure! She screened in porch was definitely a favorite spot for us. Thank you for sharing the cabin. I can;t wait to return very soon.

The best vacation very relaxing.
By Barbie, Posted: 01/30/2019
With a family of five boys and myself, we knew we needed room for 'boys to be boys' and this home delivered 10X over. There is so much space outside to explore and play but still be within eye/ear shot. The river was complete bonus...I sat and read for a whole 2 hours uninterrupted enjoying the sounds of the forest. The little house was perfect for my teenager to be away from the youngsters. Cannot wait to see this gem in the summer.
